One of the greatest blessings of our mission is the opportunity and joy of working with and training new couples as they come to serve humanitarian missions. It is a demonstration of the faith and courage these remarkable couples have developed in their lives, and the love and power of God in delivering, sustaining and teaching all who serve missions. In July we arrived in Mindelo, Cape Verde (off the coast of Mauritania, Africa) to meet Elder and Sister Erickson who arrived just two weeks earlier.

The airport in Mindelo. We didn't have to check which terminal we would meet the Erickson's at!
The road from the airport to their apartment. Cape Verde is a series of islands off the western horn of Africa. The beautiful blue water surrounds Mindelo.
Jorge has driven missionaries, young and older, in his taxi for years. He knows where they all live and the places they need to go. The Lord sends all kinds of people to bless and be blessed by his missionaries.
This is the stake center in Mindelo. Cape Verde is the highest baptizing mission in the Europe Area. It is also the poorest country in the Area, but the people are faithful and committed to keeping their covenants.
This man was recently baptized and was excited to see the new missionaries as we walked in the city.

This is the Organization for Women in Mindelo. LDS Charities donated sewing machines and training for women who are now able to make items for their families and items to sell.

Their wonderful director was so happy to show us the results of the sewing classes.
LDS Charities also donates glasses for children and adults who cannot afford them, educational training and materials, training in agriculture and animals to provide for food production, help for the elderly, homeless and vulnerable in the society. This is the clinic where the eyeglasses are distributed.
The missionaries in Mindelo had lunch after their district meeting at the cafe where we were going.

It was a great training experience with the Elder and Sister Erickson. They will bless the lives of the poor here and will be a strength to the local saints and missionaries. Time for us to pack and board our flight back to Frankfurt via an overnight in Lisbon.

How great it is to see all the beauty and the work that is being done for these wonderful people so far away. We love the pictures and you two look as young as ever! We keep all of you in our prayers and the dedication that your service is providing to so many. We are experiencing fall like weather now and recently David took us on a drive around the loop as well as Cotton Wood canyons and other areas. The beauty is astounding all throughout this world. Indeed, this world is amazing and we know that our Father in Heaven is blessing our lives each day. Love you both.
