We submitted our mission papers in February and 6 weeks later we received the big white envelope with our new mission assignment.
The family all gathered in person or on the phone for the "envelope opening".
We opened the envelope, and since this is our fourth mission, we knew exactly where to find the call letter from the prophet. We read it aloud together... "You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Europe Area. Your primary assignment is to labor in the Europe Area Welfare Office as an area welfare specialist."
The Lord has given us health, resources, and a call to serve another mission. As area welfare specialists (AWS).we will train and support fifteen humanitarian couples in twelve countries: Albania, Bosnia, Cape Verde, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia, Slovenia/Croatia. They will be doing humanitarian projects like; clean water; wheelchairs, vision care, mother and child care, refugee support, immunizations, and many more local projects with hospitals, schools, and orphanages. The projects are targeted to support the poor and needy of these countries.
We will be set apart to be full-time missionaries this Sunday. Family will gather to be a part of this special occasion. We will serve for 18 months and live in Frankfurt, Germany. The Church has an apartment waiting for us and we will have an office in the Area Office building across the parking lot from our apartment.
We will miss our family, but we will be in touch with them by email, Skype, phone and maybe a visit or two. The needs are great and we are prepared to serve with all our heart might, mind and strength. We look forward to sharing some of our experiences with you through this blog.
We report to the MTC next Monday, 4 September 2017. Let the mission experiences begin.
